THE METHOD
How this blue-yellow test works
This page creates twelve dotted C-gap figures in your browser. Each figure uses a page-authored blue and yellow color pair at one of several contrast levels. The direction of each opening is set in the page’s own code; these are original generated figures, not plates from another test.
Choose the opening you see, choose “I can’t see it,” or skip the figure. The exercise uses its own simple rule: a possible blue-yellow difference is suggested when missed openings outnumber identified openings. Ties do not suggest a difference, and skipped figures are left out. At least one figure must be answered to create a screening note. This rule belongs to this page; it is not a validated clinical scoring method or a version of an established test.
READ YOUR RESULT
What the screening note means
A result that suggests a possible difference is a reason to ask about a formal color vision assessment. A result that does not suggest a difference cannot rule one out. This browser exercise cannot identify tritanomaly, tritanopia, another color vision type, or severity.
Display settings, screen quality, room lighting, glare, and individual viewing conditions affect the colors on screen. The figures and the page’s rule have not been clinically validated.
This C-gap task records opening choices; the generated 15-swatch D15 arrangement instead lets you swap hues and inspect its reversed-pair count.
A FEW DETAILS
Blue-yellow color vision test questions
What does “tritan” mean here?
“Tritan” is a common term related to blue-yellow color vision. This page uses it to describe the focus of its generated exercise, not to name a result or diagnose a condition.
Is there a tritan color blindness test?
Yes—this page is the blue-yellow test for tritan-related color vision.
Can I skip a figure or say I can’t see it?
Yes. “I can’t see it” is counted as a missed opening. A skipped figure is left out of the page’s response tally.
Can this test diagnose a color vision deficiency?
No. It is a page-authored screening exercise, not a clinical test or diagnosis. An eye-care professional can provide a formal assessment.
Can I keep my result?
Use Copy result to copy its two screening statements, or choose Print or save to open your browser’s print view. Your responses stay in this tab and are not sent to a server.
do you see protanopia simulations as black and white if you are tritan?
There is no reliable yes-or-no rule: a protanopia simulation is a model of color appearance, so its black-and-white appearance to a particular tritan viewer cannot be inferred from the label alone. A peer-reviewed evaluation of color-vision-deficiency simulations found that accuracy differs across simulation models.
how do you see skin and hair colour if you are tritan?
There is no single skin- or hair-color appearance that applies to everyone with tritanopia; it affects particular color distinctions, and a person's appearance cannot be predicted from the label alone. The National Eye Institute notes that color vision varies among people and describes color distinctions that may be affected by tritanopia.
can you get accommodations at work or school for blue yellow color blindness?
Yes, support may be available when color-dependent schoolwork or job tasks create a barrier; the National Eye Institute notes that children may need classroom help and adults may need job accommodations. Ask the school or employer about options for the specific task; availability depends on your situation and local rules.
is it possible to be both red green and blue yellow colorblind?
Yes, red-green and blue-yellow color-vision deficiencies can occur together; a clinical study indexed by PubMed documented people with both kinds of color-vision loss.
confusing blue and green under low light?
That experience alone cannot identify a color-vision type; if the change is new or worsening, ask an eye-care professional to assess it, because color-vision changes can also follow injury or other eye and nerve problems.
do colour blind glasses change your test result or your type?
A different result while wearing color-filtering glasses does not establish that your underlying color-vision type changed; an eye-care professional can assess your type with a formal test. The National Eye Institute describes special glasses as aids that increase contrast between colors.
can you be blue yellow colorblind and not know it?
Yes; a formal color-vision assessment can check for an unnoticed blue-yellow difference, while this browser exercise cannot confirm or rule out a type. The National Eye Institute recommends talking with an eye doctor if you think you may have a color-vision deficiency.
is tritanopia inherited or acquired after an eye injury?
An eye injury can cause an acquired color-vision change; an eye-care professional must determine whether it affected color vision and what type. The National Eye Institute lists injuries to the retina, optic nerve, or brain among possible causes of acquired color-vision deficiency.
what is the HRR test and does it test blue yellow?
Yes—the HRR test includes blue-yellow plates for tritan color-vision deficiency. Good-Lite’s HRR blue-yellow subset is specifically designed to test tritan deficiency.
